Nomar Garciaparra Retires
One day after rejoining the Boston Red Sox, shortstop Nomar Garciaparra retired. This ends his 14-year career, during which time he was a fan favorite in Boston, winner of two MLB batting titles, six-time All-Star, and AL Rookie of the Year.
At the age of 36, the player will take a job as an analyst for ESPN.
"From the first day I had the thrill of putting on a Red Sox uniform and playing in front of all the great fans at Fenway Park, I have felt at home in Boston," Garciaparra said in a statement. "While I had the privilege of playing with other legendary teams, I always saw myself retiring in a Red Sox uniform."
